How Interior Designers can use Blogging
A blog can help build an online presence, and interior designers are not excluded from writing one in this current digital age. Blogging can help you, the interior designer, connect with your audience, provide design ideas, and showcase your expertise, and build a brand.
In this blog post, I’ll explore how you can leverage blogging to improve your online presence in Australia.
You will earn the trust of your readers by sharing your “Before and After” pictures and writing about them.
Showcase your Expertise: Blogging allows you to share your knowledge and creative ideas with your audience. You will earn the trust of your readers by sharing your “Before and After” pictures and writing about them. Add some tips on how to decorate, or how to set up furniture, etc. You can also use examples of your work in the past, convert them into blog posts and share.
Educate your Audience: Share your expertise and provide valuable information to your readers. They can learn design tips, DYI decor, and trends you might want to include in your content. This content will help them make informed decisions, and if they can’t make a decision, this content will entice them to ask for your advice and ask about your services. Share updated information on current trends, including how-to videos on blog posts to keep readers engaged.
Optimise the Content with SEO: Optimise your blog posts with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to gain visibility. Well optimised content with relevant keywords can drive traffic to your blog and website, giving it a better chance to rank. If you don’t know how to optimise your content, learn how to use the most effective keywords and find out where to add them in your titles and descriptions. SEO can give your content a boost in visibility and increase the opportunity for new clients to book appointments with you.
Highlight your Portfolio: Use past projects, case studies and testimonials from satisfied clients. Use pictures of those projects showing the do’s and dont’s of the particular project. Ask for testimonials. Always remember UGC (User Generated Content is powerful). When you share people’s testimonials and when they share how their life was changed by your design, your audience will be appealed to learn more from you.
Monetise your Content: Monetising is a strategy that can bring dollars to your pocket from your blog. Mention the projects you did and tools you used. Sign up for affiliate marketing for the tools you used and link the images of the tools to your affiliate links. Read and follow the marketing rules of the company you are sharing. Create a “Shopping List” similar to what bakers do with an ingredient list in a recipe and embed or share the list on your blog.
Tips for Blogging
Consistency is key. Establish a regular schedule for you to write the content and to keep your audience engaged and informed. If you provide the content regularly, they will have you on their mind frequently.
Promote your Blog
Although your blog can receive organic traffic, don’t forget to promote it. Promote it on social media and email newsletters. Ask your readers to share as well.
High quality photos and embedded videos are tools to highlight your content. As a designer, let your clients read and see the beautiful designs you have created. Let your blog reflect that.
Quality over Quantity
Prioritise well written and researched blog posts. Don’t write just to write and publish. Make your best effort to provide your reader the best information. Don’t skim on information. When the content is good, people share it and that gives signals to the search engines to rank it higher.
Don’t forget the analytics. Install Google Analytics or other analytics tools to track and measure data on your website. This will give you information on which articles are getting more views and which pages people are spending the most time. This will help you see which articles have received more interest and it will also help you decide on which topics to write about. Google Analytics just launched its latest version GA4 which provides graphs and visuals of the data which makes it easier to understand.
Don’t forget to add a Call To Action
Your blogs should always finish with a Call to Action or CTA. Whether it is sign up for a form, download a freebie or free PDF, watch a video, etc. Link other related articles to your post. Internal linking will help your readers keep reading interesting related topics, but also helps the search engine understand the structure of your blog and the blogs that are related to each other. It will also help keep your readers to spend more time on your page.
Blogging is an important marketing tool for you to showcase and highlight your expertise and knowledge. Share your blog to connect with your audience in Australia. When you write constantly and provide good quality content frequently, your readers will be expecting your blog weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, depending on the cadence you choose to publish. Don’t forget to optimise your content, but keep in mind you are always writing for your client, not for the robots. Stop and analyse which content is doing better and create a content strategy around that. You might be surprised by your analytics results. Write about what your audience is asking and not what you might think is best for them. Remember to have a Call to Action, or CTA, on each of your blog posts. This makes a difference when it comes to maintaining your audience engaged with you. If you are not yet blogging, start a blog today and build your online presence as an interior designer in Australia.
